Application for Leave
Application for leave in Extreme Exceptional Circumstances:
On receipt of a completed form the Headteacher will decide if the request falls within the Extreme Exceptional Circumstances criteria.
Please note that holidays are not deemed to be exceptional circumstances and will not be authorised.
If permission is refused and leave is taken this will be recorded as unauthorised absence.
If 10 or more sessions (a session being a morning or afternoon) are recorded as unauthorised, a request for a Penalty Notice to be issued may be made by the Headteacher to the NYCC Education Social Worker. Previous attendance may be taken into account. The latest guidance from NYCC has changed based on the High Court ruling regarding the threshold required to be met for the Local Authority to issue a Penalty Notice. This is interpreted to mean:
a child needs to have 90% attendance and under with a minimum of 20 sessions unauthorised absence (including the absence) over a reasonable period of time, which the Local Authority feels should be 200 sessions (6 months).
Until this issue is resolved in the Supreme Court or by a change in the guidance the school will submit a registration certificate for the child(ren) to the Local Authority.
The Local Authority takes the decision to issue a fine.
Forms are issued on request from the school office.
If you have any queries regarding this please contact the Headteacher.
