Be Kind, be brave, believe
In Year 4 we have a fun-filled classroom where the children feel secure and confident to explore all areas of their learning. We build on the skills they have already learnt to deepen their understanding and become more accomplished.
Within our maths curriculum the children independently access any concrete resources they need to support their learning and understanding of more abstract concepts. They delve into mastery to become articulate mathematicians, through a school-wide sequence of fluency, reasoning and problem solving and we also build in arithmetic learning to their weekly diet. Our Early Bird morning sessions on top, keep our maths learning refreshed.
In English we are inspired by a core text to deepen our learning through a series of cycles. Building through skills and creativity we develop our writing over two weeks, working to end point of high quality, published work. Our reading curriculum follows a whole class reading approach, focusing on different genres of text and delving into all the different aspects of reading skills.
The whole school Learning Mission inspires the rest of our curriculum, providing rich and meaningful contexts and themes onto which we hang the foundation subjects. The children enjoy a varied selection of subjects and can direct their own learning through their choice of tasks on occasions. Physical and mental well-being is a high priority and threads through all the learning with as many opportunities for outdoor learning as possible.
